The sun rose on a seemingly lazy day. Everything was quiet and still on the planes of Frost Cove, a small island in the Valkir Realm. Earlier in the day two new lives had come into the world, though one also departed. The Valkir’s divide their ranks among clans; the Frost Cove clans welcome the new comers with open arms, or at least, that’s what it seems like from the outside.

A young male around 7 wandered into the nursery, his mother had just passed away giving birth to twin girls. The boy moved to stand by the crib and leaned over the edge to look down on the two, his jet black hair falling. He knew well enough that children here were not born with wings, yet one had wrapped herself in a pair of ice blue wings.  Looking at the other child who had been placed in a soft blanket the boy gave a faint smile; at the same time he despised both his family would be torn.

“Checking on your sisters, Koro?” an older male, likely in his twenties stood in the door way. The young boy turned, half scowling at his uncle. He already knew the twins would be getting more attention.  “Don’t look so down, boy.”

“Like you care… You hardly shed a tear when mom died.” Koro hissed back. He’d come to hate his uncle, same as his father. The younger Valkir shook his head trying to shake a sudden wave of sorry and pushed past his uncle. Koro was young still, he was seven by Valkir standards but looked about 17. He had inherited his father’s dark tan skin and black hair, his sapphire eyes had been passed down from his mother.

His uncle was also dark skinned. His hair was a dark auburn while his eyes were dark blue. Koro stopped about halfway down the hall and stepped to the side as his father walked by. His emerald eyes filled with sorrow and rage. Koro watched as his father pulled his uncle into an empty room, closing the door behind them. Koro turned and walked back to the nursery door, partly to keep an eye on the newborns and partly to try and catch what was going to be said between the adults.

Now in the family room, door firmly closed Koro’s father pushed his brother-in-law into the wall, growling.  “You knew what was going to happen didn’t you!? Now where is the bastard that is the dammed half-bloods father!?” even in his anger he kept his voice low, to be sure to not startle or wake the twins sleeping in the nursery.

“You’ve always been far too tense, Shorin. Karisha made the choice to be with the man and to keep the child.” The other replied in a far to calm tone. “Besides, you should be more worried about what you’ll do with them now that she’s gone.” Shorin growled and pressed a hand to his brother’s neck, before throwing him to the side and walking back to the door.

“ I don’t have time for your games, Fenn. You have till nightfall to either tell me what you know, or get the hell out of this house.” Shorin warned as he opened the door, slamming it closed as he walked away.

Fenn growled as soon as the door closed, he rubbed his throat, trying to soothe the pain. He had once fought alongside Shorin, but since they had ended up in the same house hatred had begun to stir between them. Fenn stood grumbling and glared at the door before moving to sit on a carved stone chair. He rested his elbow on the arm of the chair and his chin in his hand. Giving out information he’d sworn to keep secret wasn’t exactly something he ever planned to do. Now he had to decide if losing a hold on something that would be important later was worth keeping that secret. His eyes wandered to the door which had been cracked from being slammed shut.

“Not my day I suppose…” Fenn grumbled to himself. He closed his eyes and eventually slipped into a light sleep.

Koro ducked out of the way as his father slammed the door behind him. Shorin wasn’t exactly a kind soul but he loved his family, the fact that his wife died a few hours earlier was reason enough for him to be upset. He started walking, and then stopped in front of his eldest child.

“Koro, watch the twins and do not let Fenn near them. Something is up, and I don’t like it.” Shorin’s voice alone was cold, but the air in the small hall grew even colder. Koro nodded and watched as his father walked to the door and stepped outside.

Koro was about to walk to his room when the sound of crying drew his attention to the crib. The older of the twins was awake and seemed upset. She had kicked the small blanket away, red faced. Koro sighed and walked over to the girl picking her up gently. His ears twitched from the high pitched cries, but he sat in a small chair and rocked the child back to sleep.

After placing her back in the crib his eyes came to rest on the second child. She had hardly moved even while her sister had cried. Koro curiously rested a hand above the girl; his eyes widening slightly a steady wave of pure energy collided with his hand. His mind suddenly snapped to something he had been told a few years back. There was an old legend about what was referred to as the Silver Bloods. Valkir’s who held the power of the bloodlines. The young boy’s resolve to watch over the twins had been strengthened in keeping that knowledge.

He placed a blanket back over the older twin, who had been given the name Kara. Kara had a dark aura about her, almost as though she was a warning for something terrible to come. The half-blood of the twins had been named Kira. Her body gave off a mixed aura, not completely dark, yet not completely normal either. Both twins had dark red hair and light blue eyes. Koro smiled at the sight of both sleeping.  Of course it wouldn’t be till several hundred years later that the happiness would turn to hatred and pain.

thanks, and I'm not sure if he does or not. Things are gonna turn to hell sooner or later though.
